No News For A While
It's been quite a while since I added a news item, so thought I'd better explain why.
I have been working but a lot less as I decided to cut down my work load.
This was so that I could do some other things.
So, nowadays, I don't look for work...but if someone gets in touch, I still consider it.
It's the same with my piano teaching, writing & consultancy work.
I'm still doing a little bit as, like photography, I really enjoy all these things.
My work has always been loved like a hobby.
As a result, all my past present & future customers get very special treatment.
Thank you!

Camera Flair Photo Appears In New Book
Passion United, written by Phil Miles, is a newly published & unique book about the ups & downs of being a truly passionate football fan. A darn good read I say & well worth the £5.95 asking price. The book is available now at www.footypoet.com & readers will see in the book or even the preview sample, this Camera Flair photo, originally taken at Beamish Museum. Very proud we are & best wishes to Phil with Passion United & his new books planned for 2013.

Just Champion
A fine 69 by ex-pro Ricky Lee on Close House's Championship Colt course captured the Journal Champion of Champions tournament by two shots. It would have been a course record had a couple of tees not been moved. Camera Flair was there to shoot the action. Just click here.

The Olympic Torch In Prudhoe
Camera Flair grabbed a few shots of the Torch carried by Wendy through Prudhoe & was honoured to do some private shots later. Wendy's a great ambassador for the town & for the Dragon Tale Theatre Group which does such great work.

County Golf Championship
I was at Bellingham on May 20 doing some shots for the final two rounds of the Northumberland County Stroke Play Championship. James Curry from my home club, Prudhoe, won the title by five shots after firing rounds of 71 69 69 67 for a four under par total of 276. Apart from shots of James in action & picking up the trophy, I shot a number of action & scenic shots at this beautiful location.

Wonderful Wensleydale
A friend invited me for a day it in Bainbridge, not far from Hawes in Wensleydale. It's the most gorgeous place...nearly as good as the Tyne Valley...so I was pleased I had my camera with me. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great & the light was awkward for outdoor shots. Even so, I managed a couple of OK landscapes & my friend's Bengal cats were happy to pose for me.

Birthday Shoot
My friend & mentor, David Taylor, the renowned landscsape & travel photographer, took me to Beamish for some B&W training. And it just happened to be my birthday. I was with David at Craster last year & got some decent shots. This time, I'm sure I did better & may even have got some possible entries for this year's Reflect Tyne Awards. Judge for yourself.

Final Just Champion
An update on the last piece of news is that I did in fact reach the final of Age UK's Internet Champion 2012 rather than the shortlist as mentioned last month.
As a result, I spent a busy but highly enjoyable three days in London with the other three finalists. Eventually, I finished runner up but I felt very honoured to get so far & fly the North East flag. The awards dinner was at the Royal Society where I met celebrity Internet Champion, June Whitfield, and Martha Lane-Fox, the business equivalent.

When not being interviewed, filmed & other duties, Age UK put us up in the Rubens At The Palace hotel, took us to the London Eye & for tea at The Ritz.
I did of course take a camera with me & you can see the photos here until 1 Mar.
But the whole purpose of all this is to help 5.7 million people over 65 not on the internet get connected. You can help an older person get a taste of technology with a simple pledge in Age UK's Digital Champion pledge. Just visit here & you can make a real difference.

Old Before My Time
It was a very pleasant honour to be short-listed by Age UK in their national search for an internet Champion. I didn't quite make it across the line but, as always, the real losers are the ones that don't enter. Anyway, regional media kindly covered the news including the Hexham Courant who prompted the following reply:
"When I read your piece, I was immediately excited by the headline “OAP Shortlisted For Internet Title.” That was because I’m not an OAP but thought you may know something which would enable me to receive my pension early. But, having contacted the DWP & my other pension providers, euphoria was quickly replaced by disappointment. Like myself, they all recognised the established editorial credibility of both yourself & the Hexham Courant. They would however all like to confirm that I am not yet 65 & cannot get my hands on the cash until I am.
The good news is that I only have three months to wait but thanks for trying anyway. I’ll bring the cream cakes to the Courant offices in April."

Roam Leaflet Distribution Chooses Camera Flair
Established in Spring 2011, Roam Distribution may be the newest door to door marketing business but it is already leading the market by delivering more frequently & accurately than its competition. Founder Robert Greener is no stranger to the door drop market having established Amaro in 1995 & making it the UK market leader before he sold out in 2006. Robert then moved into publishing with the highly popular & award winning Tyne Valley Express. But his meticulous standards demanded more flexibility & efficiency with TVE's deliveries & decided to re-enter the door to door marketing market once more, at the same time offering a superior service for TVE clients & other businesses. Camera Flair was proud to be chosen to provide imagery & content editing for the new Roam website.

12th Title For Shaun
Former England International & Northumberland County Champion, Shaun Philipson, beat off the ‘Young Guns’ to win the Prudhoe Club Championship for an unprecedented 12th time.
With rounds of 71 & 67, he secured a three shot victory over Andrew Scrimshaw who shot two 71’s. Danny Shevill led by two shots after a first round 69 but faded with a second round 80. Former Hexham player, David Craig, was 3rd with rounds of 74 & 69, a shot ahead of Denny Ward, 72 & 72, with Northumberland County Captain, Kevin Robson, a shot further back after rounds of 75 & 70. Shaun has now qualified for The Journal Champion of Champions shoot-out on the new Colt Course at Close House on Sunday 4 September. Camera Flair was at Prudhoe to capture the action.

Elizabeth - Queen of Opticians
One of the region’s longest established opticians has recently undergone a major image & re-branding. The new-look business was opened by BBC weather man, Paul Mooney, and Camera Flair was chosen to cover the opening plus images for the new web site & advertising.

Elizabeth Evans Opticians, based in Prudhoe, was established in 1952 & bought by Mrs Evans in 2003.

Since then the practice has built a unique & enviable reputation for customer service standards & value for money. “Unlike most practices, my team is measured & rewarded for delivering the highest standards of personal & professional eye care to every customer rather than having to achieve sales targets which detract from customer service. We measure the success of this philosophy via staff appraisals, customer feedback & surveys,” said Elizabeth.

Additionally, Elizabeth Evans can offer a much wider choice of frames, from designer to budget, than generally available on the high street. And to cap it all can even beat the one hour service offered by some.

So why change the image of the practice? “The business has grown successfully since 2003 & has enabled us to invest in a new look that truly represents the high standards we provide & further improves the customers’ experience with us.”

Stars Shine At Close House
A host of celebrities, including the world's number one golfer, Lee Westwood, supported the official opening of Close House Golf & Country Club's new Colt Course this week.
Close House owner, Graham Wylie, ensured the the event raised over £60,000 for the Children's Heart Unit Fund at the Freeman Hospital as a tribute to the life saving operation on his daughter Kiera shortly after she was born.
Amongst the many stars striding the fairways was Alan Shearer, who played with Westwood; Sports Personality of the Year, A.P. McCoy; Ant & Dec; John Francome & Steve Harper. But not yours truly. I couldn't quite lash out close to £700 for the privilege of playing, unlike John Myers who paid £10,000 to play with Shearer & Westwood!

31 Mar 11 - Canon Likes The Swans
The swan picture on the Home page has been picked by Canon for their March 2011 Black & White Gallery. This is a real honour for Camera Flair as Canon receive thousands of entries for their Galleries & only a handful are selected. The objective is to have more photographs selected in future.

02 Mar 11 - Mobile Portrait & Events Service
Most families love to have treasured photographic memories of their loved ones - both old & young - in groups or as individuals. And don’t forget the family pet! Traditionally, this has involved a visit to a professional photographer’s studio with all the associated costs, risks & limitations. Camera Flair offers the alternative of having these important & personal photographs taken in the comfort of your own home. "This approach provides a number of benefits," said Richard Hannam. "None of the travel risks, time & costs of visiting a studio; photographs taken in familiar surroundings & natural lighting; the family pet(s) can be easily included and/or photographed separately; access to changes of clothes, familiar items (& make-up of course!) & lower costs."

What about quality? Certainly, the controlled environment of a studio provides the potential to produce shots of the highest possible standards. However, the natural & warm ambience of the home surrounded by familiar items, plus all the other benefits above, has the potential to deliver even more pleasing results. These services don’t have to be limited to traditional portraits either. Some photography just can’t be done in the studio. Special events such as that dinner party with old friends, engagement celebrations, birthday parties & many others are all possible. "But there are also those events outside the home such as, for example, the school prom, presentations & sporting events," said Richard. "The occasion is only limited by your imagination!"
For more details, contact Richard or see the document here.

01 Feb 10 - Cover Shot Success
A Camera Flair photograph has been selected as the cover shot for the February issue of Golf North East. This is the second time following selection for the cover in August 2009. It's also the third magazine cover shot in less than a year as the Tyne Valley Express used a Camera Flair photo for its May 2009 edition.

20 Dec 09 - More Photo Success
Close House Golf & Country Club is building a fabulous new championship golf course - The Colt. A couple of Camera Flair photos of the new course have been used on the Close House web site. However, one of the photos was also selected as Photo of the Month for the December 2009 issue of Trinity Mirror's Golf North East.

14 Dec 09 - Magazine Work Expands
It all started with a front cover shot earlier this year. Since then, the relationship between the Tyne Valley Express has continued to grow with regular photo assignments & a column in each issue. Distributed six times a year to over 60,000 residents all along the beautiful Tyne Valley, the magazine's 7th issue has just been released.  It's unique approach has proved very popular with readers & advertisers alike & has already doubled in size to 64 pages. Camera Flair is proud to have played a part in the Tyne Valley Express success story & aims to build on that in 2010.

22 Oct 09 -Camera Flair Photograph On National TV.
This giant seagull photo appeared on News At Ten & then on GMTV the following morning. I'd been watching a news item about the giant Australian seagull that appeared on the window sill behind a news presenter. So, I thought to myself, "I know where there's a bigger one." and emailed it in immediately. Although my shot had an element of luck, I did beg a bag of crumbs from a passing picknicker & took around 200 shots during an hour or so.
